The
Future of Professional BookkeepingWe are very excited about the role we are playing in forming the future of the Bookkeeping industry. There is a genuine opportunity to participate in the development of a new profession, brought about by the changes in technology and the tax environment.
The taxation regime in Australia is now so complex that the Tax Agent sector is failing to attract new recruits – the average age of Tax Agents is now 57, and only 3% are under 30 years of age. To support the Tax industry, there needs to be an alternative provider of services to the small and medium enterprise sector, focusing on data entry, internal reporting and BAS preparation. This is where Busy Bookkeeping fits in.
Our contribution to professionalising the Bookkeeping industry has been recognised by the ATO, who invited Busy Bookkeeping to attend the ATO’s Symposium on Bookkeeping in November 2003, where we addressed the issues of the needs of small and medium enterprises. We were the only Bookkeeping Franchise invited to participate in the Symposium.
As part of this process we are actively working with the ATO and other industry groups to define and develop an education and accreditation process for bookkeeping to ensure bookkeepers are able to achieve and maintain ATO Sect 251L compliance.
In 2004 Busy Bookkeeping called together the other major Franchisors in the Bookkeeping Industry and formed the Franchised Bookkeepers Association of Australia (FBAA) to have a unified voice for franchised bookkeepers in dealing with Government and the ATO.
The Australian Tax Office created the Bookkeeping Industry Advisory Group (BIAG) and associated BIAG Industry Workgroup in 2004 to ensure appropriate representation to the ATO of the bookkeeping industry. Participation in the BIAG is by invitation only and we are delighted to have been chosen by the ATO to have a place on the BIAG representing Busy Bookkeeping.
Busy Bookkeeping are proud to be participating in this leading edge work group which will be responsible for the formation of the future of Bookkeeping in Australia.
